Certificate II in Fishing Operations

This course provides you with basic skills required to work in the fishing sector of the seafood industry. You will gain a good understanding of routine processes and procedures, including maintaining fishing gear, operating small vessels and using deck equipment. You will also acquire knowledge in seafood processing such as temperature control of the produce and how to handle, harvest and sort by catch. You will learn about marine communication so that you can understand shipboard orders and be able to follow safe work practices in case of emergencies.

 

If you were a deckhand on a small vessel, you would be expected to assist in the operation and maintenance of fishing gear and equipment and have some basic marine science skills, which this course will provide
