General English

Studying General English at Inforum is different to any other college because we focus closely on interaction and communication so you’ll be speaking a lot from your first day.

It will also probably be very different to studying in your home country. This is because you have to speak and listen to both your teacher and your classmates. Your teacher will even ask you to stand up and walk around the room, speaking with them (your teacher) and your other class members.

Our Approach to General English

At Inforum, there is a strong focus on interaction so you’ll often be asked by your teacher to work in groups or pairs to practise new language.

This is an exciting but very important part of learning a language because you have to get used to listening to, and understanding people from other cultures and at Inforum, we have students from all over the world!

At Inforum, you’ll study Core Skills in the morning and then in the afternoon, a Focus Class, where you’ll have the chance to practise and apply your knowledge in new and exciting situations. Core Skills are grammar, reading, writing, listening and speaking.

General English has three parts: 

  • CORE SKILLS: 16 hours per week,
  • FOCUS LESSONS: 4 hours per week,
  • WORKSHOPS: 3 to 6 hours per week with optional free lessons to give you more chances to study.

Total study time: 20 to 26 hours per week

All students study 5 hours per day, 4 days per week Monday to Friday and have one day free for working, sightseeing or meeting friends!

Inforum Education Australia, on the beautiful Gold Coast, is the English school where students come for a unique language and culture experience. Join our Friday Forums for 100% understanding and progress. Choose your timetable, Early Bird or Late Starter to suit your lifestyle. Also, our activities program is a great way to explore our 55 km of beaches and rainforests. Located on Australia´s beautiful Gold Coast, Inforum is the home of innovation in English language education. Our programs are written by the Managing Director, Simon Craft, who is also the Director of Studies. He personally guarantees the quality of the courses and the teachers. Simon is also an IELTS examiner and he has written and taught Cambridge FCE and CAE programs for over 17 years. Our teachers are all fully qualified and have many years experience in Australia and across the world. Inforum has a very strong commitment to teaching quality; in fact, we even provide training for teachers from other schools on the Gold Coast. After your regular Monday to Thursday classes, you will have the chance to ask any questions you have during the Forum sessions on Friday morning - the aim is that nobody finishes the week not understanding what they have studied. Twice a month we have guest speakers come to the school. They talk about their jobs and lives and the students ask them questions. Our speakers are always different and include Olympians, firefighters, police officers and aborigines to name a few.
