Certificate III in Individual Support

Aged care workers provide physical and emotional support to older people who require assistance with daily living, aiming to improve their quality of life and maintain independence.  This course will introduce you to all aspects of a support worker’s role including assisting with daily activities and personal care.

The course covers independence and wellbeing, communication, working with diverse people, legal and ethical requirements, healthy body systems and safe work practices.

 

 

STUDY MODE

Face to face training and one day per week industry placement

 

TRAINING LOCATION

On campus at Sterling Business College – 65 Newcastle St Perth plus vocational placement (120 hours minimum) at an aged care facility.  This is arranged by Sterling Business College.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Completion of 10 years of schooling or equivalent,
  • English proficiency – Please see Entry Requirements for further details.

 

COURSE UNITS

To achieve this qualification you will be required to successfully complete 13 units – 7 core units and 6 electives.  The elective units will be chosen by Sterling Business College.

  • CHCCCS015 Provide individualised support,
  • CHCCCS023 Support independence and well being,
  • CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services,
  • CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people,
  • CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically,
  • HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems,
  • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care.

 

Elective Units

  • CHCAGE001 Facilitate the empowerment of older people,
  • CHCAGE005 Provide support to people living with dementia,
  • CHCCCS011 Meet personal support needs,
  • CHCCCS025 Support relationships with carers and families,
  • CHCADV001 Facilitate the interests and rights of clients,
  • CHCPAL001 Deliver care services using a palliative approach.

Study pathways

After achieving this qualification you may choose to undertake the Certificate IV in Ageing Support or the Certificate IV in Disability or another qualification from the Community Services Training package.

Employment pathways

After achieving this qualification, you will have the knowledge and skills required to work in the Community Services industry as a carer.
