The Bachelor of the Built Environment provides you with advanced knowledge of design and architecture, building construction techniques, client briefs, sustainable principals and substantial knowledge about the practice of architecture.

  • Be able to problem-solve using a variety of techniques and tools in order to synthesise and apply knowledge to a range of planning and design tasks of varying size and complexity.

The Bachelor of the Built Environment was developed following rigorous consultation with industry stakeholders and benchmarking with comparative courses within Australia to ensure that students have essential skills as required by architects at the undergraduate level. The Bachelor of the Built Environment was accredited in late 2013, with the Tertiary Education Quality Standards Agency (TEQSA).

Course design includes input from a range of stakeholders including architectural and construction firms, ensuring theoretical and practical coverage.

The Bachelor of the Built Environment is aligned to the recommendations of the Australian Institute of Architects Standards for Undergraduate Programs in Architecture.

Articulation

The Bachelor of the Built Environment has been designed to enable students to articulate from the 22268VIC Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural) and receive the equivalent of up 9 subject credits (approximately three semesters).

You will be required to submit a folio of work and attend an interview.

Assessment Methods

Assessment methods will include a blend of design presentations (‘pin-ups’ and oral presentations), model making, portfolios, essays, reports, reflective journals, case studies and analyses, projects, tests and exams.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

You can seek RPL where your work or qualifications of an advanced and related nature have been undertaken. Academic Credit is granted on a case-by-case basis, according to our Academic Credit policy and associated procedures. Applications for Academic Credit will be assessed by relevant Melbourne Polytechnic academics and where appropriate, industry experts.
