This course will equip you with knowledge and skills to accomplish the design, presentation and documentation process for residential and commercial building projects.

The course focuses around the idea of ‘the simulated office’ with a project based delivery structure where you will apply the knowledge gained to projects as you progress through the course. Classes mix hands-on sketching and design work with theory and building documentation drawings.

Industry connections and resources

This course is recognised by the Building Designers Association of Victoria, and by the Building Practitioners Board as the pre-requisite qualification for application to become a registered practitioner within Victoria.

Note: practical industry experience is also required.

The course is also an excellent stepping stone to other qualifications in fields such as architecture, project management, town planning, or interior design.

Assessment

A variety of assessment methods are in place, including project-based assessment, theory-based tests, completion of practical assignments/folio work, and targeted oral questions.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

You can seek RPL where your work or qualifications of an advanced and related nature have been undertaken. Academic Credit is granted on a case-by-case basis, according to our Academic Credit policy and associated procedures. Applications for Academic Credit will be assessed by relevant Melbourne Polytechnic academics and where appropriate, industry experts.
