IELTS Plus

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world's most widely recognised English test. It is accepted for entry into TAFE courses and higher education courses.

 

IELTS speaking, listening, reading and writing tests provide students with scores from band 1 (non-user) to band 9 (expert user). These scores are combined to provide an overall band score. These band scores place students at a recognised English level and enable them to apply for further study in a TAFE College or at a university in Australia. 

 

Most Institutes of higher education, including North Metropolitan TAFE, require 5.5 for entry to certificate and diploma programs and English speaking universities and higher education institutions require students to have an overall band score of between 6.0 and 7.5 to be eligible for entry to ​degree programs.​

TAFE Western Australia is the largest provider of vocational education and training in Western Australia, with campuses located throughout Perth and regional areas.  TAFE’s practical approach to education, taught by teachers who are experts in their field, ensures students are learning the skills that are relevant to today’s ever-changing world.  Most courses also include an on-the-job work placement and an industry focus which ensures the student gains the practical skills and knowledge employers are looking for. 

 

Graduates of TAFE can move into employment or continue their studies at University, often with advanced standing. Students can also apply for a TAFE/ University package which allows for the combining of a Diploma/ Advanced Diploma and a Bachelors Degree from Curtin University, Edith Cowan University and Murdoch University.   Graduates will then receive a double qualification – a Diploma/ or Advanced Diploma, and a Bachelor’s Degree.
