Master of Philosophy

The Master of Philosophy in the Faculty of Law requires the completion of a major thesis of 35,000 words in length, which may be undertaken in any area of research within the faculty. It is particularly suited to students seeking to undertake an inter-disciplinary research project. It is expected that the thesis will meet a standard comparable to legal writings found in learned journals, and demonstrate the student's ability to carry out independent research and to analyse and synthesise legal concepts.

Enrolment in a Master of Philosophy involves the independent investigation of a research problem that has been formulated by the student. It is expected that the research undertaken will make a contribution to the discipline in which the student is enrolled by applying, clarifying, critiquing or interpreting that knowledge. Students are supported by a minimum of two supervisors throughout their enrolment.
