Certificate IV in Disability

The Certificate IV in Disability course is designed for those who wish to empower people living with disabilities. Working in the disability sector, you may provide direct care or coordinate various agencies to deliver support services to people with disability.

 

STUDY MODE

Face to face training and one day per week industry placement

 

TRAINING LOCATION

On campus at Sterling Business College – 65 Newcastle St Perth plus vocational placement (120 hours minimum) at an aged care and disability support provider.  This is arranged by Sterling Business College.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support,
  • English proficiency – Please see Entry Requirements for further details.

 

COURSE UNITS

To achieve this qualification you will be required to successfully complete 14 units – 11 core units and 3 electives.  The elective units will be chosen by Sterling Business College.

At Sterling Business College the first group of units are offered in the Certificate III in Individual Support.

 

  • CHCCCS015 Provide individualised support,
  • CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people,
  • HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems,
  • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care,
  • CHCAGE001 Facilitate the empowerment of older people,
  • CHCADV001 Facilitate the interests and rights of clients.

The units below are offered in the Certificate IV in Disability program.

 

Additional Core Units

  • CHCLEG003 Manage legal and ethical compliance,
  • CHCDIS002 Follow established person-centred behaviour supports,
  • CHCDIS005 Develop and provide person-centred service responses,
  • CHCDIS007 Facilitate the empowerment of people with disability,
  • CHCDIS008 Facilitate community participation and social inclusion,
  • CHCDIS009 Facilitate ongoing skills development using a person-centred approach,
  • CHCDIS010 Provide person-centred services to people with disability with complex needs.

 

Additional Elective Unit

  • CHCDIS004 Communicate using augmentative and alternative communication strategies.

Study pathways

After achieving this qualification you may choose to undertake a Diploma qualification from the Community Services Training package.

 

Employment pathways

With this qualification, you will be able to pursue a wide variety of roles in the disability sector such as:

  • Care Service Team Leader,
  • Disability Officer – Day Support,
  • Disability Support Officer/Worker,
  • Employment Coordinator (Disability),
  • Project Officer (Life Enhancement Team),
  • Care supervisor (Aged Care),
  • Coordinator of Volunteers (Services to Older People).
