Advanced Diploma of Maritime Operations - Marine Engineering Class 2

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need for a career in Marine Engineering. You will study mechanics, thermodynamics, electro technology, maths and computing including CAD; gain skills at the management level in marine safety, marine management, legislative compliance, naval architecture and vessel maintenance; and learn about electrical, electronic and control engineering along with the operation and maintenance of marine engineering plant and equipment. You may also elect to undertake steam systems training as an additional skill set.

 

This course is recognised by AMSA as part of the requirements for the award of a Certificate of Competency as Engineer Class 2. Successful completion of this course, required sea time plus the AMSA oral examination; enables students to obtain the AMSA certificate.

 

Below is an indication of the requirements for entry into this course, prospective students must:

(a) be part of an AMSA approved engineer cadet program of at least 3 years duration; or

(b) have completed the following documented qualifying seagoing service:

(i) if holding a certificate an Engineer Watchkeeper certificate of competency or any other certificate AMSA considers to be at least equivalent to an Engineer Watchkeeper

certificate of competency — at least 12 months qualifying seagoing service on vessels ≥750 kW propulsion power while holding an Engineer Watchkeeper certificate or 

its equivalent of which at least 9 months was on vessels using propulsion of the kind to which the certificate relates;

 

Based on any certificates or qualifications that you may already hold, you MAY be required to undertake additional short course qualifications as specified by AMSA. This is an ASMA requirement for certification for all seafarers. This fee may cost up $8,500 depending on your training.
