Throughout the year, you will receive intense one-on-one tuition on your principal musical instrument. You will also gain valuable experience in the music industry as part of your training.

If you have music performance experience and a basic level of theory and music notation knowledge then the Diploma of Music Industry (Performance Stream) is suited to you.

Course outcomes

• Perform contemporary and commercial styles of music in bands and ensembles for a minimum of eight hours a week,
• Develop music craft skills in theory, aural, improvisation, keyboard, arranging, composition and technology,
• Present two recital performances,
• After completing the Diploma in 1st year, progress to the Advanced Diploma in 2nd year,
• Perform on and off campus in leading venues around Melbourne.

Most importantly, you will network with many other musicians and students in further areas of music industry.

Industry connections and resources

Your teachers are music industry professionals with years of experience. They are active performers, composers and arrangers as well as educators. With your fellow students, you will perform in some of Melbourne’s leading venues and make vital industry contacts.

You will have access to our expansive rehearsal rooms set up with drum kits, piano, PA and amplifiers. Our computer laboratories are equipped with the full complement of music software. Our theatre spaces are equipped with excellent sound and lighting, as well as skilled student operators that support your every performance.

Assessment

You will be required to perform regularly and your assessment will include a combination of hands on practical and theoretical tasks.

Recognition of Prior Learning

You can seek RPL where your work or qualifications of an advanced and related nature have been undertaken. Academic Credit is granted on a case-by-case basis, according to our Academic Credit policy and associated procedures. Applications for Academic Credit will be assessed by relevant Melbourne Polytechnic academics and where appropriate, industry experts.
