Melbourne has a dynamic and exciting music scene that offers many unique venues and opportunities – the perfect place to turn your studies into a remarkable and fulfilling career.

Melbourne Polytechnic’s sound studios (at Fairfield and Prahran) are fully equipped to allow you to specialise in producing electronic music and sound for commercial release, live performance, theatre, film and television.

You will explore writing and producing original music and the work of other musicians. You will also manage the creation and installation of sound designs.

Industry connections and resources

Teaching staff are active practitioners with years of industry experience, eager to impart their insights and share opportunities with passionate students.

Students work in state of the art recording and live performance facilities, using analogue and digital technologies, and industry standard software packages Pro Tools and Ableton live.

Collaboration and entrepreneurship are at the core of the program, with integrated creative projects facilitating networking with students from other disciplines.

Melbourne Polytechnic is an Avid Training Provider. You will also have the opportunity to become Pro Tools Certified Operators which looks great on your resume.

Employment outcomes

On completion of the course, you will have developed an excellent understanding of compositional techniques using electronic media and an understanding of recording, editing and mixing. You will have acquired skills in sound synthesis, composition and arrangement, along with recording, mixing and live sound.

You will be assessed through:

Recognition of Prior Learning

You can seek RPL where your work or qualifications of an advanced and related nature have been undertaken. Academic Credit is granted on a case-by-case basis, according to our Academic Credit policy and associated procedures. Applications for Academic Credit will be assessed by relevant Melbourne Polytechnic academics and where appropriate, industry experts.
